Youths participate in dragon boat training clinic

Women are often under-represented in sport leadership activities.

So says the Director of the North Eastern Dragon Boaters Association, Shallona Shallowe.

She says this was one of the reasons Master dragon boat trainer, Connie Flesuras was brought to Trinidad.

Flesuras is leading a coaching and paddling clinic with over 40 youths and 20 coaches from the Guaico Secondary, North Eastern College, Sangre Grande Secondary, Matura Police Youth Club, Bishop Anstey High School and Trincity College East.

Ms Shallowe says she is pleased with the number of female paddlers and coaches participating in the program and looks forward to seeing their skills at work when the program closes off on Sunday.

She also hopes the training sessions led by Flesuras could be an opportunity for participants to build on their skills, especially since many are aspiring to compete in several international competitions.
