NEDBA Beach Clean Up

Beach clean up

North Eastern Dragon Boaters Association (NEDBA) is coordinating its first beach clean up activity on Sunday 29th November 2015 from 8am to 12 noon. This initiative brings together paddlers, family members, friends and well wishers to volunteer their time in cleaning up the Salybia Beach. Salybia Beach is located along the scenic north‐eastern coast on the Caribbean island of Trinidad.    The beach is about 700 meter long. Nestled within its expanse is the majestic Rio Seco River.  The eastern part of the beach is protected by a fringing reef, forming what is known as a reef flat which is ideal for snorkeling and wading.

According to the data, plastics bottles and other plastic items accounted for 90 percent of the debris on popular beaches and waterways around the country. Plastic waste alone kills up to one million sea birds, 100,000 sea mammals and countless fish each year though ingestions, entanglement and physical injury. Eighty percent of all pollution in our seas and oceans comes from land based activities.

NEDBA is calling volunteers and members of the school communities to come out and support this initiative.
